Breaking down is not a pleasant experience in fact it’s a complete pain, especially on a cold wintry night. For this reason it’s advisable to have adequate breakdown cover in place, especially if your vehicle is over a few years old. Many motorists get caught out without cover each year and end up paying through the nose in event of breakdown.
In addition to breakdown cover there are few things that you can do to make sure you stay safe and warm whilst waiting for repairs or a recovery truck to arrive.
Put the following things in your boot:
In addition to these items its worth also considering the following:
-
Carrying a fully charged mobile phone device or the relevant car charger
-
Tell a friend or family member where you are going if travelling at night or by yourself
-
Snacks and drinking water
-
An up to date A to Z covering the the local area or UK
-
A GPS device, but bear in mind the directions tend to send you to a postcode rather than the exact address if out in the country
-
Make sure you fill up with petrol at the beginning of your journey. Petrol tends to be cheaper away from the services and if you are driving somewhere rural there might be a lack of petrol stations.
-
Have regular breaks if going on a long journey, especially if driving at night.
