When you take out your car insurance policy you will be asked if any other people require cover to drive your vehicle whether it be a spouse, relative or friend.There are two multi driver options available – named policy holders and 'any driver policies'.

If you want to insure 1 or 2 additional people on your car policy then the easiest way is to name them on the policy at inception. You will require the drivers personal details including driving history to do this and yourself and the additional drivers will then be covered for the duration of the policy. It’s worth noting that some insurers even offers discounts for adding your spouse to your policy, whether they drive the vehicle or not!

If however you require a number of different people to drive the vehicle, then some insurers offer what is called an ‘any driver policy’ which limits the use to any drivers over a certain age (say 25). The drivers must have a claim and conviction free license to qualify for cover otherwise you will be required to call your insurer to check they are happy for this person to drive the vehicle first. Any driver policies are most commonly used by businesses who find them time saving and more convenient.
